My name is John Milroy, aka DAN, Marc's student in this book.
I always enjoyed golf, but when life got too busy with work and family,
I stopped playing. A few years later, I was ready to resume my game.
Unfortunately, a year's worth of diligent practice did nothing to
improve my handicap - off about 18 - and that was after a few lessons
with a local pro whose instruction was boring and difficult to follow!
Then I met Marc Erard, the man who totally changed my outlook on
HOW TO PLAY GOLF.
He did this by teaching me how to change my ball flight from a
huge ballooning slice - one that travelled more distance sideways than in
length! After our first session, I was able to draw the ball and gain
considerable distance in only a week's time. He then showed me how
the clubface dictates where the ball goes, and within a few more weeks,
I had cut my handicap to 14. Over the following three years, I continued
to cut my handicap from 18 to 8!
My nickname at the club is now the Mechanic because I have
reduced my handicap more than anyone else and am generally in the top
five or six players in every match!
And I owe it all to Marc. His easy-going nature, natural talent and
remarkable ability to understand and teach the subtleties of the game
make him the ideal golf instructor and consummate pro.
Marc recently sent me several chapters of this book. As I read,
fondly remembering the lunches and drinks we enjoyed, I was reminded
of several exercises I had forgotten. I applied them immediately with the
result that my putting has improved over the last two rounds - from
43 putts a round to 30. I shot a gross 73, which gave me a net 65 -
not too bad for a half-hour's read!
